In an experiment involving 50,000 consecutive tool abrasions, quartz countertops demonstrated an extremely low wear rate of only 0.01%, significantly better than granite at 0.03% and marble at 0.05%. The experiment included countertop samples from 30 different brands of quartz, granite, and marble to ensure the breadth and reliability of the data. In a domestic environment, a survey of 5,000 households showed that 4,750 of them (95%) reported their quartz countertops still looked as new after more than five years of use. In comparison, only about 75% of households using granite and marble reported similar durability.
A study focused on high-traffic restaurants recorded the performance of quartz countertops after enduring over 1,000 direct knife cuts and heavy impacts daily. The study, which covered 50 restaurants globally over a year, indicated that the durability of quartz countertops was higher than 90% of other countertop materials on the market. In tests involving extreme temperatures and chemical exposure, quartz maintained 99% of its physical integrity after exposure to up to 200°C and various household chemicals over extended periods, far surpassing traditional materials like granite at 70% and marble at 60%.
Stain Treatment
With a porosity rate of less than 0.3%, it is difficult for liquids and stains to penetrate the surface of quartz. In an observation involving 300 household kitchens over a year, quartz was 99% effective in preventing the penetration of red wine and grease, significantly higher than granite at 92% and marble at 88%. This observation involved the most common liquid pollutants in daily use, including coffee, tea, juice, and oil products. During the year-long observation of 200 household kitchens, various types of stains were recorded. After using ordinary cleaning agents, the success rate for cleaning common stains such as juice, coffee, or grease on quartz countertops was 97%, far exceeding marble at 78% and granite at 85%.
Under these high-intensity usage conditions, the gloss and cleanliness retention rate of quartz countertops reached 95% within a year. For difficult stains such as dyes and inks, quartz countertops achieved a 90% success rate in removal after applying specific cleaning agents, a rate that usually does not exceed 70% in other surface materials. This test covered 20 different brands of common dyes and inks on the market.
Performance Analysis
Quartz's heat resistance allows it to withstand direct temperatures up to 300°C. After a series of thermal cycle tests, quartz exhibited almost zero deformation rate, whereas common kitchen materials like granite and marble had deformation rates of 0.5% and 1.2%, respectively. These tests involved 100 samples over long-term cycles, demonstrating quartz's superior stability under extreme temperature fluctuations. When exposed to common kitchen chemical attacks, including citric acid, vinegar, and various cleaners, quartz maintained a 98% chemical stability rate. In comparison, marble's stability under these chemicals was only 75%, and granite's was 85%, involving over 30 types of chemical tests including the most common kitchen and industrial cleaning products.
Due to its non-porous structure, quartz surfaces are not conducive to the growth of bacteria and mold. In antimicrobial tests, quartz materials showed higher antimicrobial efficiency than other competing materials, with an antimicrobial rate of 99.9%, higher than other traditional materials.
Maintenance Tips
Although quartz can withstand high temperatures, avoiding prolonged direct contact with extremely hot items is a commonly recommended precaution. A study covering 1,000 households showed that those accustomed to using heat pads on quartz surfaces maintained an above-average intact rate of 95% after five years of high-intensity use. Direct contact with hot items resulted in a damage rate about 30% higher. Market research found that users who consistently use mild, non-abrasive cleaning agents retain 98% of the visual and tactile quality of their quartz surfaces, far higher than those using harsh or abrasive cleaners, according to a survey of 100 home goods stores covering feedback from 5,000 purchasers.
Using plastic scrapers instead of metal tools can effectively prevent scratches on quartz surfaces. In a case study involving 50 high-end restaurants, those using non-invasive cleaning methods rated their countertop's overall condition 20% higher than restaurants using traditional cleaning methods. In commercial settings, places that regularly apply maintenance products show a 25% longer lifespan for their surfaces.
