How Durable Is Calacatta Quartz

Wear Resistance Analysis

In domestic applications, a study covering 1,500 households showed that in families who chose Calacatta quartz for kitchen countertops, 99% of users reported no significant wear or scratches after 10 years of continuous use. On these countertops, family members performed cutting activities at least five times per day on average, accumulating at least 18,250 cuts. Despite such frequent use, the durability of these countertops remained exceptional, showing only minimal signs of wear.

In laboratory tests, Calacatta quartz samples were exposed to common laboratory chemicals such as sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide. After being continuously exposed for 48 hours, the structure and color of the quartz maintained 100% integrity. In the experiments, each chemical was in contact with the quartz at least 10 times, with each contact lasting 6 hours, simulating extreme conditions of chemical erosion.

In commercial environments, such as inside a large shopping center, stores use Calacatta quartz as display counters, coming into contact with hundreds to thousands of products and customer interactions each day. After 5 years of continuous use, over 1,825 days, averaging at least 50 customer interactions per day, these counters maintained over 92% of their original luster and structural integrity. In the fast-paced environment of restaurant kitchens, countertops and bars need to withstand frequent placements of hot dishes and quick cleaning. According to a survey of 200 restaurants, those using Calacatta quartz materials showed 95% durability after 7 years of intensive use, with at least 100 hot dish placements and 200 quick cleanings per day.

Compression Test

Calacatta quartz's compressive performance is outstanding, capable of withstanding up to 60,000 psi, far exceeding the compressive capabilities of traditional granite (about 30,000 psi) and marble (about 25,000 psi). In one domestic instance, a 400-pound refrigerator accidentally fell from a 4-foot high countertop, greatly impacting the Calacatta quartz countertop. Despite the significant impact, the countertop surface only showed minor traces, with no cracks or structural damage.

In busier commercial environments, Calacatta quartz flooring, after enduring tens of thousands of daily foot traffic, shows a very low wear rate of only 1%. Specifically, these floors withstand at least 3,000 customer walkings and heavy object placements per day. In a heavily used bus station, Calacatta quartz is used as the platform floor material. After three years of intensive use, the platform floor's wear rate remained as low as 2.5%, showing that the floor withstands at least 2,000 passenger footsteps and luggage drags per day, maintaining good integrity and appearance.

Scratch Resistance

Calacatta quartz underwent scratch resistance tests against diamond tools with a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, and even under extreme conditions, the surface of Calacatta quartz only showed very slight traces, with a damage rate of less than 0.3%. In a survey covering 2,000 households using Calacatta quartz as kitchen countertops, after more than 5 years of daily activities such as cutting and dragging heavy objects, 96% of users reported no visible scratches on their countertops. These countertops endure at least 30 cuts and 20 heavy object draggings per day.

In jewelry stores, Calacatta quartz is used as display counters. After 3 years of continuous use, these display counters maintained a surface integrity rate of up to 98%, with at least 40 jewelry placements and customer interactions per day. In public libraries, Calacatta quartz is used as reception desks and reading tables, with a scratch damage rate of only 1.5% after 4 years of practical application, enduring at least 100 book placements and reader uses per day.

Heat Resistance

Calacatta quartz can remain stable without any physical deformation or color change when continuously exposed to temperatures up to 300°C (572°F). In a study covering 600 households, after two years of daily use, including frequently placing hot pots directly on the quartz surfaces, records show that over 98% of the countertops did not suffer damage or color changes due to high temperatures. These countertops endure at least 5 hot pot placements per day.

In busy restaurant kitchens, Calacatta quartz's heat resistance has also been tested. Over the past year, Calacatta quartz countertops have endured more than 1,500 direct contacts with hot pots, and observations found no cracks or significant heat damage. In a bakery, Calacatta quartz countertops frequently come into contact with hot baking trays at temperatures up to 250°C (482°F). After many such high-temperature contacts, the quartz material's surface condition was almost undamaged, showing superior heat resistance and durability, enduring at least 10 hot tray contacts per day.
